Melalui mata kuliah/modul ini, Anda akan mempelajariMata kuliah ini mengenalkan mahasiswa pada tiga genre dalam sastra, yaitu drama, puisi, dan prosa dalam bahasa Inggris. Mahasiswa mendapat pengetahuan mengenai berbagai elemen pembangun teks yang menjadikan sastra sebuah karya seni yang mewakili pemikiran kreatif penulis dan kondisi masyarakat di mana ia ditulis. Dengan mencermati berbagai elemen sastra tersebut, mahasiswa akan mampu menganalisis dan mengapresiasi teks-teks dari ketiga genre tersebut. Dengan metode kuliah interaktif, kerja kelompok, belajar mandiri, dan discovery learning, mahasiswa berlatih untuk mencermati isu-isu sosial dan kekuatan sebuah teks sastra, serta berlatih memresentasikan temuan mereka, berdiskusi dengan rekannya untuk mempertajam pemahaman mereka terhadap teks tersebut, dan menulis tinjauan singkat mengenai karya tersebut.
Setelah mengikuti mata kuliah/modul Anda akan mampu (1) menjelaskan hakekat, fungsi, dan elemen genre dalam kesusastraan, (2) mengaplikasikan metode close reading dan menuliskan anotasi, (3) mampu menganalisis elemen-elemen teks sastra dari berbagai genre untuk membuat interpretasi teks, dan (4) menjelaskan secara lisan dan tertulis tema suatu karya sastra berdasarkan kaitan antar elemen.
SESSION 1: INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE; WHAT IS LITERATURE AND WHY LITERATURE MATTERS?
This session is divided into three parts. The first part will go through the syllabus of the course to get a clear idea about the objectives of the course, the class rules, the topics that will be covered, the assessment, and the group division. The second part is for you to discover what literature is and why we study it. Then, we will discuss the different genres in literature, each with its own specific elements.

Orientation:
1. Introduction to the course (asynchronous using the PPT Session 1: Introduction to the Course) (5 minutes)
2. What is Literature and Why Literature Matters: students fill in the questionnaire in google form (10 minutes). Students will then work in groups to make their definition of literature and the role of literature in their lives and write the discussion results on the CHAT in EMAS (15 minutes). Students comments on the other group's definition and opinions (30 minutes)
By using the prompt given on Page "Literary Genre", students work in groups to identify the genre of each literature. Then, students write the elements of each genre (prose, poetry, drama) in PPT and submit them on the FOLDER (Literary Genre). (40 minutes)
Practice 2
Continue the group discussion by comparing and contrasting the elements of the three genres in literature. Do they share similar characteristics? Write the results in the FORUM in EMAS. Write comments to two other groups. (40 minutes)
SESSION 2: ELEMENTS OF PROSE, DRAMA, AND POETRY
In this session, we will discuss the narratological framework of a story to identify the elements of narration in prose and drama and the literary devices in poetry.

Practice 1 – Students read the exposition of 5 texts and answer the questions provided within their group. (

Practice 2 -- Students read the article "A SHORT GUIDE TO CLOSE READING FOR LITERARY ANALYSIS" and practice the close reading by answering the second set of questions of the exposition of 5 texts. The results of the discussion are to be submitted in the provided FOLDER in EMAS. (60 minutes)

Group discussion:
1.Read each exposition and choose ONE exposition.2.Study the exposition closely and identify the elements mentioned above (the characters (including the narrator), the setting, the atmosphere and the tone of the story, the point of view, and a hint of a possible conflict)3.Write your response in the FORUM at EMAS.

SESSION 7: MID-TERM EXAM
The Mid-term Exam is an online exam that will be conducted during the class session (11.00 a.m.to 1.50 p.m.). You are supposed to complete the exam within this range of time. The exam will cover all the materials from Session 1 up to Session 6. There will be 10 multiple choice questions, 10 T/F questions, 5 short answers, and 2 long essays on two new poems.
